OUR MISSION
MISSION STATEMENT
The University of Connecticut Fire Marshal and Building Inspector’s Office supports a safe and healthy environment for employees, students, associates, and visitors to work, study, live, and visit all University of Connecticut owned properties. The office provides regular inspection, incident investigation, construction permitting, and consultation on matters relevant to design, construction, renovation, maintenance, and use of structures, systems, and related assets. The office also provides public fire safety education and planning assistance. Through the Life Safety Systems program, coordination and maintenance of critical life safety systems in University owned buildings is provided. The University of Connecticut Fire Marshal and Building Inspector’s Office accomplishes this mission through pursuit of the following goals:
- Impartial enforcement of the regulations and policies of the State of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut
- Collaboration with all university departments to promote and support the collective missions of these entities
- Promulgation and promotion of policies for safe and efficient future construction
- Enhancement of outreach and public education opportunities
- Support of staff resources through professional development to enhance recruitment and retention
- Benchmarking of peer institutions and industry best practices
